There's panettone, and then there's panettone!
A couple of years ago, we decided to stay home for the New Year's Eve weekend and instead celebrate all comfortable and cozy with some of our friends at our house. We have a pretty big place so everyone had their own bedroom and we spent the weekend chatting, sitting by the fire, drinking wine, playing Buracco, and cooking meals - delicious meals!
The de rigeur holiday dessert in Italy is panettone which I've really come to love. When I first moved here I enjoyed it, but it was more like a delicious raisin bread than a holiday dessert; the American in me was looking for sweet and gooey desserts with lots of chocolate, pecan, and pumpkin pie – this kind of thing. My mind - and palate - have done a complete reset and I'm definitely on the panettone page these days.
If you think that panettone is simple to make - far from it!
