On borders, walls and……Bridges

We’re living in strange times with powerful nations fighting to expand borders and elsewhere oppressed people try to emigrate to democratic nations but encounter fences intended to keep them out.
I came upon a delightful quotation by Naples-born, Rome-resident, Italian manual laborer turned writer, journalist, screen writer, poet and translator Erri De Luca, and it embraces the beauty and underlying concept of bridges:
“The bridge is the only building structure that is generous and cordiale (social / neighborly). Instead of dividing, it unites, connects, and spans over rivalry”.
