Italian treasures await ✨
All about our olive harvest, the latest ancient Roman discoveries and more
I think what I'm the most excited about this week (and every time I think about it I giggle with pleasure) is our olive oil harvest! But that's not all!
This week there was one of the most outstanding archaeological discoveries in Italy in years and I want to tell you all about it.
And I found a delicious brussels sprouts pasta recipe you have to try.
Lots to share in this newsletter so let's get started…
Back to the Flavor of Italy olive harvest!
First of all we don't have that many olive oil trees, under 20 and closer to 15. A couple of them are really baby olive trees and barely count when you're adding up your productive olive trees. We have two big guys right out front and then trees all along our drive leading out to our front gate that are medium-sized trees.
This year in chatting with other friends who have olive trees in and around Rome most ended up with 25 to 30 L of oil and some of those friends have double the amount of trees we have.
I am leading up to the big drum roll to tell you that when all was said and done and we took our olives to the press we ended up with 51 L of olive oil! I'm tickled pink about this because it's the most oil our trees have ever produced and way, way more than all our friends and neighbors. I'm not sure exactly why and I do know that olive trees tend to produce beautifully one year and less so the next but for whatever reason this was a golden production year for us!
If you happen to come to Rome this year come out and visit Flavor of Italy. I'll sit you down on our terrace with a glass of wine, make you some bruschetta and drizzle our luscious olive oil on top. It's just wonderful!
