This ancient monastery, nestled along the Tiber River near the charming medieval town of Ponzano Romano, is a captivating blend of history, art, and spirituality. A Story Rooted in History
Founded in the 8th century by Carloman, brother of Pepin the Short, the Abbey of Sant’Andrea in Flumine boasts a history that spans over a millennium. According to local lore, Carloman renounced his political life to seek refuge and contemplation, choosing this very spot for his spiritual retreat. The area’s history, however, extends even further back: the first church on this site was built in the 6th century by Galla, the daughter of Symmachus, a Roman patrician.
