800 year anniversary celebration of Saint Francis of Assisi's first Nativity Scene in Greccio just north of Rome
+ Delicious restaurants to try in the Contigliano/Greccio area
Contigliano is my husband Maurizio's hometown. Although he was actually born in nearby Terni every single relative on his mother's side was born in Contigliano. And more than that: they were all born in the same family home, in the same iron frame bed, that I have kept and moved to our present home north of Rome. Although no-one on his mother's side is left in Contigliano, and the family home was sold some years ago, we still have occasional reasons to visit Contigliano, if for nothing other than the charm of this northern Lazio town.
Contigliano is steeped in history, most of which pertains to delightful stories of Maurizio's antecedents recounted by my mother-in-law Lidia - an avid storyteller. My recollections are of summer visits to the family home in Contigliano, accompanied by delicious food prepared by Lidia.
If you're looking for a fantastic day trip just outside of Rome this is a great choice.
