Origins of the Name "Tiber"
Throughout history, the Tiber has been known by various names, each reflecting its significance to the region. The current name, "Tiber," is thought to derive from the ancient Etruscan name Thybris or from King Tiberinus Silvius, a legendary figure associated with the river's banks.
Source of the Tiber
Hidden amidst the slopes of Mount Fumaiolo in the province of Forlì-Cesena lies the source of the Tiber. Mussolini's strategic border adjustments in 1923 ensured that Mount Fumaiolo fell within the province of Forlì, thereby claiming the Tiber's source as his own.
